In what observers believed was an honour well deserved, HealthPlus Pharmacy has been voted 2015 Best Pharmaceutical Retail Outlet by the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA).

For the second consecutive year, HealthPlus Pharmacy – the fastest growing pharmacy chain in West Africa – beat Medplus Pharmacy and Mopheth Pharmaceutical to clinch the annual healthcare award. Last year saw Healthplus Pharmacy dusted the likes of Alpha Pharmacy and Juli Pharmacy Plc to win the same category.
In attendance were Olorogun Dr Sonny Kuku, renowned consultant physician and endocrinologist; Pharm Ifeanyi Atueyi, managing director of Pharmanews Limited; Dr. Andy
Cunliffe, general manager of Reddington Hospital; Dr. Leke Pitan, former Lagos
State commissioner for health; Pharm. Bisi Bright, CEO Livewell Initiative and Pharm. (Mrs) Claire Omatseye, managing director of
JNC International.
In his welcome address, Dr.
Wale Alabi, the project director explained that the award was designed to
celebrate and recognise the best individuals and organisations that have
contributed in a remarkable manner to the improvement of the Nigerian
healthcare sector.
“To remove any iota of doubt about this award, let me
reiterate that all votes were done via social media. This is to retain our
integrity and non-alignment to any individual or organisation. I used this
opportunity to congratulate all the nominees and eventual winners,” he said.
Acknowledging the effort put so far into the project, Dr.
Anthony Omolola, national president of Association of General Private Medicine
Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) praised the organisational skill of Dr. Alabi
saying that he is a man who ensures he executes whatever he makes his mind to
With 40 branches nationwide and additional 48 new outlets, the Nigeria’s 1st Integrative Pharmacy has become a pride in pharmacy and the beauty world.

When quizzed about the long term project during her 7th Annual Dinner and Thanksgiving event in December last year, Pharm. Bukky George, managing director of the company believes that with the pace HealthPlus Group is moving, the success of the past would look small when compare to plan of the future.
The question may then be asked: Who exactly is Bukky George and where did she get the motivation to undertake what was once regarded by many community pharmacists as impossible?

A registered pharmacist with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN), the HealthPlus boss got her qualification in the early 90′s. After completing the mandatory 12-month Internship and National Youth Service, she started her career as a Medical Representative, first at May & Baker and later at SmithKline Beecham (now GSK).

At the time, there were not enough standard pharmacies in terms of shop fitting, personnel, professionalism, knowledge base and range of healthcare products on offer. In particular, she has a passion for natural remedies and feels an application of both orthodox medicines and natural remedies lead to better treatment outcomes.
HealthPlus Pharmacy officially started operations in May 1999 and CasaBella Beauty, a retail beauty business was incorporated into the chain as a logical addition.
