Man of the moment, Sam Allardyce fondly called BIG SAM was recently seen cooling off at a beach in Mauritius with Lynn, his spouse.
With West Ham enjoying their best start to a season since 1983-84, the West Ham tactician celebrated by enjoying a well-earned break on the sunny island.
With the intense heat generated by top clubs in the EPL this season, Big Sam who got his coaching badge at 26 perhaps need the comfort of the beach more than ever.
It would be recalled that the former Bolton coach was once pressured by his wife to quit football after he was shown the exit door by Newcastle in 2008.
How did that happen?
Big Sam spent less than eight months on Tyneside before new Toon owner Mike Ashley decided he wanted to bring in his own man.
Newcastle ended up being relegated the following season despite being 11th when Allardyce left.
The West Ham boss takes his side featuring Toon old boys Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll to St James’ Park tomorrow.
And despite insisting he bears no grudges towards Ashley, Allardyce says wife Lynn thought his experience at Newcastle was too much to come back from.
“My wife said I should (quit). She said, ‘For God’s sake, you’re better off out of it, is it worth it?’ But I want to decide if I can when I want to stop,” he said.
“The thing is they go through more stress and pressure than you because they sit and watch you go through it.
“They are your support system if you like, that’s why she said what she did. They see what no one else sees. But she understands what I am, a football man, and even in the tough times I need to do this job. It’s a drug.
“It was the hardest one to take because I thought it was the right one. I thought it was the next step, a big club, big fan base, big budgets.
“And unfortunately I never saw any of that. So it happened, I left and I moved on.”
Allardyce took almost a year out to go travelling with his wife and he admits it took time to get over the disappointment.
Well… all those turbulent eras are gone now as Sam was spotted resting his tired bones in readiness for the challenge ahead of West Ham this season
