There was pandemonium in the early hours of the morning in Ebute Metta when a petrol tanker in the course of driving into Conoil Petrol Station on Apapa Road in Ebute Metta area of Lagos caught fire after hitting a PHCN electricity pole.

As expected, the fire which started at about 7.30am spread quickly into the station thereby forcing petrol attendants and motorists to take to their heels.

But for the timely intervention of residents and neighbouring filling stations (Mobil and Oando) who rushed to the scene with extinguishers, the fire would have spread to nearby residents.

However, men of the fire service arrived 30 minutes later to mop up the reminants from the major road.

Meanwhile the link road leading to Apapa Road through
Oyingbo and Costain has been cordoned by a team of FRSC corps and men of
the Nigerian Police posted to ensure peace and sanity return to the
area.
