PHCN’s junior staff to earn N8 million per annum

The Federal Government has declared that it would pay workers of the
Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) huge retirement benefits and
that the lowest paid would take home as much as N8Million (for Secondary
School Certificate holders) and as much as N38Million for the highest
paid staff.
Minister of Power, Barth Nnaji, while speaking on the threats by workers
of PHCN to go on strike over differences between the PHCN Workers Union
and government on the payment of retirement benefits, explained that the money promised to workers was based on the calculation of payment of 25% pension for retirement.

“They say it is N85, 000. I cannot understand how they could
say that. Many of the people who are Junior officers, some of them with
WAEC qualification, are going to go home with N8 million. We just do
not want to publish tally sheet. Somebody who is in the position of an
Assistant Gen Manager, could go home with N38Million.,” he said.
