AHEAD OF 2012 POLL New Ghana’s president picks Central Bank governor as running mate

Newly ascended President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has announced Kwesi Amissah Arthur the Governor of the Bank of Ghana as his vice president and running mate for the 2012 presidential election. While giving his reason, Mahama described Arthur as a qualified person who can help him unite Ghanaians and build on late President Mills’ better Ghana Agenda. Mr. Amissah-Arthur has been Governor of the Bank of Ghana since October 1, 2009 and serves as its Director.

Sources said that President John Dramani Mahama was torn between Mr Kwesi Amissah Arthur and former World Bank Advisor / Minister of Finance Mr. Kwesi Botchwey but tapped the Central Bank chief over the very experienced Botchwey.

The two will face the NPP’s Nana Akufo Addo and his VP nominee, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as other opposition candidates at the December 2012 polls.
